    Don’t want to claim that the New Yorker stole this idea, but a comedian named Jeff Stilson had this in his stand up act way back in the early 90’s. The gist of it was:

    “I hate it when pro athletes thank God for winning the big game. Just once, I’d like to hear the loser blame God. ‘Yeah, we were in the game until Jesus made me fumble. He hates our team.’

    Also, on the topic of Jesus and football, I found this to be incredibly funny…

    I swear I saw a super young Drew Carey in a generic football uniform on some Comedy Central show doing the “Jesus made me fumble” joke in the ’80s well before Stilson ever did.
