Possibly overdone, but nevertheless a beautiful depiction of the impotence of the Law (VIOLATION!) in the realm of grace and freedom. Note how Newman kisses each meter before popping it off.

As many times as I have seen that movie (I watch it every time it comes on TCM, or wherever)I have never seen the begining at that scene.

I'm not sure how impotent Luke thought the law after he was put on that chain gang.
