“Give all of us gathered here tonight the strength to remember that life is so very fragile. We are all vulnerable, and we will all, at some point in our lives… fall. We will all fall. We must carry this in our hearts… that what we have is special. That it can be taken from us, and when it is taken from us, we will be tested. We will be tested to our very souls. We will now all be tested. It is these times, it is this pain, that allows us to look inside ourselves.” – Coach Taylor

Most beautiful, authentic show on TV.

I just finished season 1. I liked it a lot. My favorite moment so far is when Matt/QB1 said to the coach's daughter:

"W…w… would you b-be my girlfriend?"

Definitely the most touching moment I have seen.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to see season 4 until this fall when it is released on DVD.

I think the writers of this show are just wonderful. They really GET their subject matter. Usually, when you see rural/small town south portrayed on TV or film, you either get this romanticized, quaint, "quirky" fantasy… or you get the harsh, ugly stereotype so much of the country loves to hate. But the creators of FNL don't condescend to this small Texas town with flattery, nor do they condemn it. They just treat it with honesty – the good AND the bad – and they get it just right. There are so many little moments of poetry, just like the "girlfriend" scene you mentioned. I'd forgotten about that. You gotta watch seasons 2 & 3 – there's some really great stuff that happens with Jason Street. He will BREAK your heart. I actually just watched the first episode of Season 4 today…
