We all know the AMAZING video for ‘Hurt’. But did you catch the two posthumous videos from American V? I somehow missed them until researching a recent Elvis post (which featured both of these songs in startlingly different versions–though as you’ll see, Johnny’s video does have a Presley in it). Absolutely stunning in both cases, and of the deepest possible relevance to what we’re trying to do here:

The first video is an amazing commentary on the emptiness, pain, and suffering the lives of the (supposedly) Beautiful People. It illustrates the doctrine of total depravity–that sin is evenly distributed. To see Kate Moss, Flea, Anthony Kiedis, Kris Kristofferson, Bono, Kid Rock, Jay-Z, Kanye, Woody Harrelson, Johnny Depp, Chris Rock, Lisa Marie Presley, Iggy Pop, Sheryl Crow, etc., and to know so much about their tragic and broken lives–and to hear Cash singing his words about God's coming judgment. Powerful. I loved the quote Bono wrote on the wall: "Sinners Make the Best Saints."

OK, I just watched the second video and was brought nearly to tears.

The two should really be watch successively for full effect. The juxtaposition of celebrities acknowledging that "God's gonna cut them down" with the cry of "Help me" from the prisoners is powerful.
