2. My favorite Elton John record, Tumbleweed Connection, ends with the Gospel-tinged number “Burn Down The Mission”. At first blush, you could interpret the song as your typical anti-clerical pioneer anthem, but I prefer to see it as a cry from the heart for something more direct and unmediated – i.e. something Protestant.
