nice Pearl Jam addition. . .

“Ten” is one of the best albums of the 90’s…It will surely be mentioned in future playlists 🙂

    PS

There is a new remastered version of “Ten” which will be released on March 24.

I recently saw a show featuring Pearl Jam on a channel called “Paladia.” The setting is intimate and allows the artist to express what the songs are truly about. Vedder explained the meaning of the song “Alive.” He said that the song is one he wrote about himself and his father. A father who died before he could ever know him. To him the song used to be a curse. The “I’m still alive” is a lament that he must go on not knowing his father. Interestingly he said that the song is no longer one of curse–now having been redeemed by audience after audience as they sing aloud with him. Great stuff!

Awesome input…Did Eddie give any reflections on “Release” ?

My favorite Pearl Jam record is Vitalogy. Then probably Yield or Vs. But Matt, i’m with on “once” – probably the best song off Ten. i have a tough time with “Jeremy”.

  7. Sean Norris says:

    Dave,

I’m curious why you have a tough time with Jeremy. Any reason in particular, only if you feel like sharing of course?

  8. Kobra says:

Nope, Matt, I don’t believe so. Though, I may have missed it. The name of the show is “Storytellers” and they feature a different artist each time.

    OH, here you go:

I believe you can find all 5 parts from that link. Enjoy!

    DZ

Why Vitalogy? What makes it special (Aside from being great music of course)?

  10. DZ says:

S- Jeremy has just always rubbed me the wrong way. I find the chorus melody kind of annoying (esp in comparison to Ten tracks like Even Flow or Alive), and the overall self-seriousness hard to take. Of course, I know Vedder’s earnestness is a huge part of Pearl Jam’s charm, and most of the time they pulled it off with huge amounts of energy and uplifting choruses. But for me, Jeremy is just too much and the melody isn’t there. The video did not help. That said, I know its one of their most beloved songs, so maybe there’s something I’m not seeing/hearing.

I think i would’ve liked Ten better if they’d included (the previously mentioned) “state of love and trust” and “yellow ledbetter”

Matt, on Vitalogy I felt the band finally developed a sense of humor/irony (“bugs” etc), which made the album, as a whole, easier to swallow. Plus, I think those are the best songs they ever wrote – “Corduroy”, “Better Man” “Immortality” are all classics. “I got Id” is also from the same era, and it rocks.

Even though they went too far with the weird stuff on No Code, I consider that to be their most underrated record. “Hail Hail” and “Off He Goes” alone make it one of their best.

And let us not forget that Pearl Jam are a remarkable cover band! “last kiss” “soldier of love” “throw your arms around me” “i believe in miracles” “crazy mary” “love reign o’er me” – these are all amazing covers.
